12/19/10 The IRS swears that the reason Z ST has been thrown into tax exemption purgatory is that the official US government policy is to treat supporters of Israel as it does supporters of terrorist regimes. Even if that is a defense they are proud of (!), it still doesn't explain Z STREET's treatment by the IRS. Z STREET filed an Amended Complaint in our lawsuit against the IRS on 12/17. This move (1)
allows Z ST. to put in the body of the pleading the information about the IRS query to another organization about its religious beliefs about, and whether it supports the existence of the land of Israel, but it (2) also incorporates the significant official statement of the US government that the IRS treats supporters of Israel just as it does supporters of terrorist states because terrorism happens in Israel. Further, Z ST alleges (3) that outrageous admission by the government is clearly not the reason why the government is treating Z STREET in a discriminatory fashion as the very policy the government invokes triggers obligations on the part OF THE IRS to take certain actions towards the organization under examination, NONE OF WHICH THE IRS HAS UNDERTAKEN WITH RESPECT TO Z STREET! And, (4) despite the sworn statement to the contrary of an IRS agent, Z ST continues to maintain that our corporate counsel was told, quite clearly, that the IRS maintains a special unit in Washington, D.C. to which the files of certain organizations are sent to determine whether those organizations maintain positions that are inconsistent with those of the Administration. UPDATE: 12/21/10 Just found out that those protesting the Jewish occupation of a Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem - the home of Judaism - called the Sheikh Jarrah Solidarity protesters, are (1) supported by J Street, and (2) have tax-exempt status!

We now have the mind-numbing IRS defense for delaying (almost a year now!) Z STREET's application for
tax exempt status. In a signed affidavit, an IRS official explains that there is no "Israel Special Policy," instead it is a Terrorism Special Policy, and that Israel is included. That's right, Israel is a terrorist state because terrorism happens there. True, Israel is the victim, but why quibble with details? This brings moral equivalency to a whole new level. 12/05/10 It finally seems as though we are looking at the beginning of human mastery over the raging fires in Northern Israel. Israel mobilized immediately, and much of the rest of the world overcame the daily nastiness (maybe it's just the media primarily at fault? A column for a different day) to help. Assistance came from likely sources such as England, France, and the USA, but also Bulgaria (immediately stepped up!), and such surprises as Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and even the PA.
