10/15/10 UPDATE!! From Mr. Hallam: Thank you. I was very touched to see your post. It has been a difficult few weeks making this momentous decision but I was not prepared to let the good name of the Methodist Church be misused in this way. Historically Methodists and Jews have worked well together. Thank you especially Dr Harold [see comments]. In the last few days Richard Hall on the website http://theconnexion.net/wp/ has led a heavy counter offensive. Dr Goldmeier's comments are helpful. It seems that enthusiam to attack a fellow Methodist quickly dries up when Jewish people defend themselves or even go on the attack! I run a small blog called www.methodistpreacher.com. It is mainly about my very local church work but in recent work has sought to highlight this issue. God bless you and thank you for your prayers. I really will need them in future weeks as I am having to weather a huge backlash. So go to his blog and show your support again, this time so others will see the support he gets from us.
10/05/10 Let's all give a silent prayer of thanks to David Hallam,
a British Methodist Minister who was sufficiently offended by the measures taken by his own church to demonize Israel that he plans to bring a lawsuit against it! The article says the lawsuit will be based on European human rights law. Perhaps Hallam's lawyer didn't get the memo that European human rights laws can only be used against Israel, not on its behalf. Maybe Hallam's act will inspire an outbreak of fairness, who knows? If we can track down a way to contact Mr. Hallam we'll post it and urge everyone to thank him for his brave moral stance.

Let me report full disclosure: I have children and grandchildren who live in Israel, and a third served on active military duty with the IDF; my wife and I have made more than a dozen trips with extended stays in Israel. Now my opinion. I find the rhetoric against the State of Israel, the disinvestment campaigns, and the boycotts of goods produced there by the Methodist and Presbyterian churches in particular to be racist and anti-semitic in the emotional, intellectual, and practical spheres of life. No such rhetoric or actions are leveled against other states like against Israel and my people. This is not the place to review history; that Methodist universities in America excluded or at best had quotas for Jewish applicants until recently suffices for now as an example of what you think of us.
